Apple juice is a favorite drink for people of all ages, made from the liquid you get when you press apples, which come from the Malus pumila tree. This tasty beverage not only quenches your thirst but also offers a lot of health benefits.

You can either make apple juice at home or buy it from the store, where it comes in different forms like pasteurized, frozen, and concentrated. It’s packed with water, simple sugars (mostly fructose), some vitamins, and specific minerals. Plus, it’s rich in organic acids that are good for your teeth.

To produce apple juice on a large scale, manufacturers press the apples to get the juice, then process it to make it clear and free of any solid bits. This involves centrifugation, enzymatic clarification, and microfiltration. For concentrated apple juice, heat is used to evaporate the water, making the juice more dehydrated.

Apple juice is packed with nutrients. It has a good amount of vitamin C, folic acid, carotenoids, and choline. Potassium is the most common mineral in it. It also contains antioxidants like chlorogenic acid, flavan-3-ol, and flavonols, which can reduce brain oxidative stress and might even help with memory.

While apple juice has fructose that oral bacteria can turn into acid, it generally doesn鈥檛 cause major tooth decay. To prevent this, rinse your mouth after drinking it and wait at least 30 minutes before brushing your teeth.

While pasteurized apple juice is usually safe, you should be careful with raw apple juice. Store it in airtight, light-proof containers in the fridge, and drink it quickly. It’s not recommended for people at risk like pregnant women, very young kids, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems because it could be contaminated.
